The Legend Behind it all
At Care Training, we’re here to support people in health and social care from ‘good’ to ‘bloody brilliant.’ And it all started with one remarkable woman—Leigh Kelly. Since becoming a registered nurse in ’74, Leigh devoted her life to caring for the elderly, the disabled, and young people in need.
Leigh wasn’t just another nurse; she was a true pioneer. From running a rest home to launching her first venture “Clinical Update” in 2004, she brought hands-on training and real empathy back to healthcare. Leigh’s mission was always clear—make caregiving meaningful. When she launched CareTrainingOnline.com in 2011, she made her practical, affordable training available across New Zealand, helping caregivers and the organisations that rely on them to lift their game.
Carrying the Torch Forward and a Bit About Us
Today, we’re proud to carry Leigh’s legacy forward. Our leadership team has over 25 years of experience in health and social care education, spanning mental health, disability support, and organisational management. Like Leigh, we put people first, delivering training that’s efficient, relevant, and built to make life easier for every kaimahi involved.
What's on the Horizon
What’s on the Horizon for Care Training? We’re all about making training accessible, relevant, and engaging—designed to work for kaimahi with busy lives and big responsibilities. Our approach builds on Leigh’s vision, keeping training real and relatable, whether it’s online, face-to-face, or on the go. With curiosity-driven content, adaptive learning paths, and a bit of cheeky Kiwi humour, we’re creating an experience that feels more like an upgrade than a task. We’re committed to staying ahead with industry insights, on-demand expert support, and gamified progression, so every learner sees real growth and every organisation gains genuine value. Leigh’s legacy of empowering caregivers lives on in every kaimahi who trains with us, and we’re honoured to carry that torch forward—helping kaimahi become the best at what they do and ensuring they feel like the legends they are.
Frequently asked questions
What is Care Training?
Care Training is an online learning platform that delivers practical, values-based courses for the care and support workforce. Courses are short, self-paced, and accessible on any device, with options to read, watch, listen, and apply learning to real-life scenarios. The content integrates Te Ao Māori principles and culturally responsive practice, while also supporting compliance, audits, and sector standards. Organisations can track completions, build learning pathways, and assign training based on roles and skill levels.
Who is Care Training for?
Care Training is a New Zealand–owned training organisation under The Radicle Impact Company. We’re a team of care sector people – including a registered nurse and former facility manager – who have worked in aged care, disability, mental health, and home support. Our kaupapa is to make learning accessible, mana-upholding, and genuinely useful for kaimahi who are busy, tired, neurodiverse, or wary of traditional study. We design training that respects the realities of shifts, whānau, and the emotional load of care work.
What makes Care Training different?
Aotearoa-first, NZ-owned: Care Training is built in Aotearoa for the way care actually happens here – across homes, hospitals, aged care, disability, mental health and community settings.
Culturally responsive on purpose: Te Ao Māori principles are woven through the training in a practical way, so learning upholds mana and makes sense in real New Zealand services, not as an add-on.
Designed by people who run services: The content is shaped by a registered nurse and care leaders who understand shifts, rosters, audits, short staffing, and the pressure teams are under.
Made for people who don’t usually enjoy study
Short chunks, plain language, real scenarios, and multiple ways to learn – read, watch, listen, and do. It’s built for tired brains at the end of a shift, not for classroom lovers only.
Grounded in real care, not just standards: Courses cover compliance and sector expectations, and also the relational side of care: boundaries, advocacy, emotions, communication, and everyday judgement calls.
Easy to access from anywhere: Mobile-friendly and simple to log into, so kaimahi can learn on their phone, tablet, or computer whenever it works for them.
Helpful for managers, not more admin: Built-in tracking and reporting make it easy to see who has completed what, spot gaps, and show evidence for audits and funders.
Flexible pathways for different roles
Organisations can group and assign courses based on role, setting, or skill level, so team members get what they actually need for the work they’re doing.
