Professional and Ethical Behaviour
Professional and ethical practice shapes every interaction, decision and moment of care.
This course helps kaimahi build confidence in the everyday skills that protect mana, rights, dignity and trust. Explore professional boundaries, accountability, communication, cultural safety, documentation and ethical decision-making, with practical guidance for recognising concerns and responding well when situations are complex.
Grounded in person-centred, strengths-based practice and the Aotearoa New Zealand care context, this course connects everyday practice with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Code of Rights, Ngā Paerewa and workplace responsibilities.
Practical, reflective and relevant, it supports kaimahi to make thoughtful decisions, communicate with clarity and compassion, and provide care that is safe, respectful and worthy of trust.

Why this course is important?
Care and support involve significant power and responsibility. Kaimahi may influence deeply personal parts of a person’s life, and even well-intentioned actions can affect their rights, choices, dignity, mana and safety.
Understanding professional and ethical behaviour helps kaimahi use their role responsibly, navigate complex situations and recognise when practice needs to be questioned, reported or changed.
